Another Online Marketing Roadblock For Goop

Earlier this year, stateside authorities smacked Goop on the wrist over a “hormone balancing energy egg” marketing campaign. And now, an anti-pseudoscience group out of the United Kingdom has filed a complaint. The group believes Goop has continuously stepped on British advertising laws.

The claim alleges that the lifestyle website peddles “products which could cause direct harm.”

Vitamin Marketing Leads To Legal Complaint

Goop’s latest product to hit headlines is a vitamin pack called “The Mother Load.”

According to promotional material, it’s for pregnant women and those trying to conceive. Apparently, the product contains 110 percent of the daily recommended value of vitamin A and 69% of the daily recommended value for pregnant women. However, the UK National Health Service advises expectant mothers to avoid Vitamin A supplements altogether.

Goop, for its part, is spinning a different narrative. The company’s senior vice president of science and research, Dr. Susan Beck, says the product contains less Vitamin A than the NHS’s recommendation for pregnant women. Plus, she points out, the package included a warning about the maximum recommended intake of Vitamin A for expectant mothers.

Authorities are also investigating a bag of crystals advertised as having “healing energies.”
