Several months back, Truth In Advertising chastised DJ Khaled, a Ciroc brand ambassador, for not labeling his posts about the vodka with either an #ad or #paid hashtag. In response, he scoured through his back catalog, added the necessary disclosures, and deleted a few.
Fast forward a few months. Truth In Advertising is now calling out Diddy, Ciroc’s brand manager, in addition to several brand influencers, like Alessandra Ambrosio, Bow Wow, and French Montana, for failing “to reveal their material connection to the alcohol brand in a clear and conspicuous manner in violation of FTC law.”
What will happen? Unsure. But the FTC has been targeting online influencers as of late. So we may see some sort of formal action come January. We’ll keep you posted.
