John Shaw is a Cryptocurrency Accountant at Gordon Law Group, helping clients prepare accurate tax returns by reconciling their transaction histories. As Manager of the Digital Assets team, John oversees work on hundreds of crypto tax returns each year.

John has a strong interest and background in economics. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and spent 6 years as an accountant in the insurance industry before joining Gordon Law Group. He enjoys the challenge and excitement of accounting for virtual currency.

As blockchain technology continues to evolve at lightning speed, John is instrumental in researching how to account for new types of crypto, NFT, and DeFi transactions. Working with our crypto tax attorneys, he’s helped build accounting processes for complex activity including Uniswap v3, bonding curves, leverage trading, and several types of DeFi loans.

He enjoys helping the Digital Assets team provide exceptional service to a high volume of cryptocurrency tax clients. He and his team have saved clients millions of dollars in taxes through accurate accounting.

In his free time, John enjoys getting outside. He especially loves hiking, biking, catching local concerts and sporting events, and playing frisbee with his dog.
