Schedule SE

Schedule SE computes self-employment tax (15.3 percent Social Security and Medicare) on net earnings from self-employment reported on Schedule C, and half of that tax is deducted on Form 1040.

How it works

It applies to business miners, validators, contractors paid in crypto, and NFT creators operating as a business. Investors do not file it.

Why it matters

The hobby-versus-business classification decides whether Schedule SE applies at all. Self-employment tax.
