When do you need a tax attorney?
Six questions, about two minutes. At the end you will know whether your situation calls for a tax attorney, an accountant, or a conversation with either, and which page to read next.
This quiz is general information, not legal advice. It does not create an attorney-client relationship, and the right answer for your situation depends on facts a quiz cannot know.
Why the attorney question matters
What you tell an attorney to get legal advice is privileged. What you tell an accountant generally is not, and an accountant can be compelled to share it with the IRS. When a matter involves an audit, unreported income, foreign accounts, or a deadline, that difference is the reason to start with the attorney and bring the accountant in under the attorney’s engagement. Gordon Law and Gordon Tax work that way by design.
