Tax returns for situations software was not built for, prepared by people who also defend them.

Business income, investments, real estate, crypto, foreign accounts, equity compensation, or several of these at once. Returns are prepared by our affiliated accounting firm, Gordon Tax, and reviewed by Gordon Law attorneys, so a position that could be questioned is decided by someone who knows how the IRS questions it. The firm is led by a tax attorney and CPA.

What makes a return worth having an attorney near

Most returns do not need a lawyer. The ones that do share a feature: something on them could be questioned, and the answer matters. A large crypto gain, a foreign account, a business with payroll, an unreported year being corrected, or a position on an unsettled question. For those, the client conversations are privileged, the return is reviewed with the examination in view, and if the IRS writes, the people who prepared it answer.

What we prepare

Through Gordon Tax, reviewed by Gordon Law

Individual returns with business income, investments, rental property, equity compensation, and multi-state filing, prepared with the supporting schedules and reviewed for the positions that matter. Tax returns

Correcting a filed return, or filing years that were never filed, before the IRS prepares a substitute return for you. Where an omission may have been willful, the attorneys advise on the right IRS program first. Dealing with back taxes

Schedule C, partnership, S corporation, and C corporation returns, with the bookkeeping to support them, through Gordon Tax. Self-employed returns

The foreign earned income exclusion or foreign tax credit, FBAR and Form 8938, and the information returns for foreign companies, trusts, and gifts, prepared together so nothing is missed. International tax

Returns that reconcile to Form 1099-DA, with basis tracked per wallet and positions on DeFi, staking, and NFTs documented. Crypto tax returns

How the engagement works

1. Intake. You send what you have; nothing needs to be organized first. We tell you what is missing.

2. Preparation. Gordon Tax prepares the return. Crypto is reconciled wallet by wallet, foreign accounts are reported on the forms that go with them, and business books are tied to the return.

3. Review and filing. An attorney reviews the positions that matter, the return is filed, and you keep the workpapers. Current-year returns are billed when the work is complete; no retainer is required for timely filings.

When to use us instead of software

Software is fine for a W-2 and a mortgage. It is the wrong tool when you own a business or several, hold crypto across wallets and exchanges, live abroad or have accounts abroad, received equity compensation, invest in real estate or partnerships, or are catching up on prior years. In those situations the questions are judgment calls, the forms multiply, and a mistake is expensive. Fees are quoted after the consultation based on what the return involves. We accept BTC and ETH.
